Features
Barcode design
Each compartment has a unique 2D barcode for each day of the week to ensure the right pills are taken at the right time. If there are any pills remaining the barcode cannot be scanned, and the scan will only work for the correct day. The protective layer over each barcode is also made from the same material used for pill bottles.
Robust pillbox
A push-open locking mechanism is used for each compartment for the pillbox, and there is enough space to store large pills and supplements. To take pills in different times of the day, pillboxes will be available in different colors with their own unique barcodes. Each pillbox can be configured for a different time of the day.
Mobile app
The pillbox works with a free mobile app that gives reminders of when to take the pills and scan the pillbox after the pills are taken. A subscription plan will also allow alerts to be sent to any family member, caregiver or a support person if the pills are not taken. Even with a subscription, Pilltrax will be way less expensive than other electronic pillboxes that can cost several hundred or over a thousand dollars.
Why It Works
The original concept has already been clinically proven. Barcode scanning was first used in hospitals and has been shown to improve the patient safety of administering medication. Nurses scan the barcodes to make sure that the right medication is given to the right patient at the right time.
It’s about turning a necessary task into a simple habit. According to the Fogg Behavior Model, behavior (B) happens when motivation (M), ability (A), and a prompt (P) come together at the same moment. Dr. Fogg is not the only advocate for simple habits – others such as James Clear and Leo Babatu are champions of making necessary tasks into simple habits to help us improve ourselves. By taking the barcode system used in hospitals and simplifying it for personal use, Pilltrax makes it both easy and reliable to routinely take your pills.
Pilltrax is a new and innovative patent-pending system. The prototype pillbox and app has been developed and successfully passed user testings.
It is now ready to be produced and will be launching soon to the general public.
Status
New and exciting features are being added to allow users to permit healthcare providers and remote caregivers to track when users take their pills. If the user permits, providers and caregivers can also receive notifications when a pill is missed.
